The Ninth Annual "Mr. Club Cleveland" Contest was held at New Dimensions Disco on Sunday September 14. The theme for this year's contest was "Arabian Nights" and featured contestants in sheer harem pants, Basha the. Bellydancer and a Middle Eastern decor.

Elaborate Moorish arches were simulated over the doors. tapestry hangings were hung on some walls and a shiek's tent was partially constructed over the stage.

The pre-show was headlined by Bobby Callocate followed by Basha's exotic dance numbers. Carlos Colon, a local dance celebrity. collaborated with Basha in performing one of the more elaborate M.E. dances.

Mr. Tiffany Jones, wearing an Egyptian pharoah's costume, mc'd the contest and also performed several musical numbers for the audience.

Each contestant was first judged in sheer apricot colored harem pants. The second category was "self-expression" in which clothing that expressed the individual's personality was worn. The third category was swim suits. The ten semi-finalists were interviewed by Jones and judged on poise and self-confi.dence.

David Peter Harris of Young-. stown, Ohio was selected Mr. Club Cleveland, 1980 and received a trophy. $500.00 and a trip to Florida. First Runner-Up was Mr. Andy Berenyi who

received $200.00, and a trophy, Mr. David Adrian was selected as Second Runner-up and received $100.00 and a trophy..

In an interview with members of the large audience later, praise of the contest and the evening's entertainment vias singularly. postive. "I've been to CBC contests in St. Louis, Miami and all over the country but none of.. them are this goo," said one per-. son. Another person echoed the comments of many people when he said. "Sam Gliozzi and Ray Wolf are to be greatly commened for all their hard work and consideration in putting this contest together. Their efforts paid off, the whole evening was excellent."
